So this week started off a bit hectic with a muddy and rainy drive to my favorite yarn dyer’s open house. I LOVE Unplanned Peacock yarns and got some beauties! I got some Peacock Sock in an unnamed reddish color that I think will make a spectacular scarf, another Peacock Sock in thyme- shades of soft purple and green. Got one last hank of Peacock Sock in borage, which I just googled to find out is a beautiful flower. Finally, I got a hank of emerald Twisty Sock that is destined to be a pair of leafy socks. I think the borage may be destined to be a small shawl and the thyme may be another pair of socks with some estonian nupps on the ankle. They are so squishy and soft, I love them!

Monday we got movers to get most of our stuff into the new house. Still don’t have a contractor to put in the bathroom or an electrician to do the electrical. ARGH! This is getting rather stressful.

Then went to work Tuesday and found out we’re scheduled for mandatory extra time on Saturday night. Great. Already tired and now we’re dropping more on me. Oh well… at least I’ve got a well paying job that supports my yarn addiction, right?

So- I’m going to try to start this blogging thing again. Let’s see what I can do. To start with, I currently have a handful of patterns up on Ravelry for purchase, and I’m working on designing more. I plan on ordering EnvisioKnit design software to clean up the charts as well as get my Spring’s Beginning pattern into the same format as my other designs. I designed a sock pattern for Unplanned Peacock’s current yarn club, and LOVE how they came out. Pictures will be posted when the design is officially released.

I am currently knitting a pair of Cardeias socks, several L’illo baby sweaters and a Cithara cardigan in Berroco Vintage for myself. I think it’s the color “Petal” shown there- it’s a soft purplish pink. I love the Vintage because it is washable and soft and has great colors.

On the home front, I closed on a house on 3/1 and we are trying to get it ready to move into. I am in the process of planning out the new bathroom and finding an electrician again. Why can’t house renovations be easy? We’ll get moved in… eventually. Meanwhile we are bouncing back and forth between two houses.

I’m making slow and steady progress at school. I am currently taking a Colonial America course that is quite interesting, as it looks at all the groups that colonized or already lived in the Americas, not just the British. Probably a much more accurate view, as it was not just the British that influenced our country. Anyway- off to do some homework and knit some baby sweaters!

So… yea… haven’t posted in forever, but this is the easiest way to post all the pictures of my trip with as much explanation as I want. Some pictures are just for the pretty drive…. others have something behind them.

I went on a trip to WV with all these crazy people- the Richmond, IN and Richmond, VA Star chapters. See Donny Moose up on the bear? he came too.

It’s becoming a tradition that dad & I ride together and hang out with the clubs up there each summer. Dad & Me relaxing after the ride

So… first view- either VA or WV mountains along route 219 somewhere south of I-64…

Pretty mountain roads…

Covered bridge… though I think you can figure that out on your own…

More mountains

Neat old building

Distant mountains

Elf house! Not sure what it really is, but that’s what I think of it…

Bikes at the inn- right set (yep- too many to get in one picture!) 3rd one from the left is dads

Panning left (you can see my car in both…) this is the front entrance

Bikes – left set

The inn is called the Brazen Head Inn- this is the signature glasswork…

Another view of all the bikes

Ok- enough bikes…. in this one- look at the barn in the background- looks like there is a guy dangling out the door creative decorating! nice old car too

Wildflowers- much of the greyish is actually lavender colored wildflowers

Closer view of flowers

View from an overlook- looking DOWN on the clouds

another view from the same overlook

took a short (1/4 mile) walk to see some neat rocks- there were pretty trees too perfect day for a walk!

Honeycomb rocks are a lattice of hematite filled with sandstone. Erosion wears away the sandstone, leaving only the hematite grid behind- so cool!

Closer view of the rock

After growing up in California, I still love how green it can get in the summer- so- gratuitous pretty greenery! I just love it!

I-64 somewhere in WV- look at those hills I drove!

Closer to home- this is about 15 miles north of home, to give people an idea of the mountains I live in

After somewhere around 600 miles in three days- it’s my exit!

Fun trip, but glad to be home!

On a bright note, a friend of mine bought me some yummy Malabrigo laceweight in the colorways Vaa, Cactus Flower and Tuareg – for whatever reason, the Tuareg was wound a lot looser so feels softer, but I know from experience that the others are going to be wonderful too. I think I’m going to make the Echo Flower Shawl from the pink…. the others I’m not sure. I already have Whales Road, Stonechat and Velvet grapes – one skein of each, and have started Mimknit’s Persephone scarf in stonechat (may use the same pattern
for velvet grapes). I really must resist casting on anything else until my Aeolian shawl is done… only 10 more (LONG!) rows!

I’ve got several things on the needles, and at least one more project I desperately want to begin but I’m trying to hold back on. My biggest focus right now is my Aeolian shawl… the photos don’t do justice to the colors, it’s much brighter than this. The yarn is Unplanned Peacock’s silk merino lace in the color moss.

I have a more detailed picture here showing the individual motifs…

I made an elephant for mom to give to someone who just had a baby… the pattern is Elijah by Ysolda Teague. I have a second one started in Patons Kroy Jacquards – a picture of the WIP is here

I’ve also started Pink Lemon Twist’s Wings of a Dream – a pattern inspired by Swan Lake. I don’t have much to show yet, but I’m using Zephyr laceweight in a gorgeous ebony that I was given by a wonderful yarn swap partner.

Finally- my dragon… also using Zephyr laceweight, this time in emerald. It’s very possibly the hardest thing I have ever tried, but I LOVE it!

So I’ve got plenty to work on and really don’t need to use the pretty new yarn for a smaller shawlette…. I got my hands on some Lang Jawoll Magic in green… it’s gorgeous! I want to play with it so bad… but I’m going to try to finish Aeolian before I try anything else.

I’m also working on a celtic knot shawl – I have it drawn, but I don’t have much knitted yet since I just finished the first draft and cast on last night. Other projects on the needles right now are the Aeolian Shawl from Knitty, Heere Be Dragone from Aurora Alpacas and a Scottish Thistle doily. I really need to start keeping up with more info here… I’m going to try!

I really need to get this blog back up and running. I just finished what may be my ultimate masterpiece. It is certainly one of the hardest patterns I have ever attempted- Fiddlesticks Knitting Peacock Feathers Shawl. I used Cascade’s Alpaca Lace in three colors- purple (1416), teal (1419) and blue (1422). I used one strand of each, then for the transition I ran two strands (one of each color) for three rows. The number of rows in each color varied. I used size 3 needles for most of the pattern, then halfway through the last round of green, my needle snapped (YIKES!) in the middle of a row. Not having another size 3 needle and not wanting to stop my progress, I switched to a size 4, which actually worked out well. You really can’t tell unless you really look. Anyway- here are all the pictures!
